Coach Carlos

I was born and raised in Lomita, California. I attended high school at Narbonne Nathaniel in Harbor City, where I played on the varsity baseball team for all four years. I was named a three-time Marine League First team selection and two-time Marine League MVP. I was awarded the Gold Glove two years in a row and three-time First Team All City selection player.

Following high school, I attended Harbor Community College where I played for two years and was selected All CCM First Team and earned a Gold Glove. After completing my second year at Harbor College, I was offered a free agent contract with the Dodgers that I decided to decline in order to further my education, and baseball career at Cal State Dominguez Hills. During my undergrad at Dominguez Hills, I was titled Gold Glove, Cal Pac and Second Team All Conference selection.

During my final year at Cal State Dominguez, I was drafted in the MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins. After my three-year baseball career with the Twins, the final years of my professional baseball were spent in Mexico playing in Liga Mexican with the Diablos Rojos and the Acerrors de Monclova.

Coaching career

After finishing my professional career, I started scouting for the Toros de Tijuana in the Mexican league in subsequent to discovering a new found passion in coaching. My first coaching job was for GBG Manhattan Beach, where their program aims to help kids develop their baseball skills. Following GBG, I continued on to coach at Narbonne High School as an assistant varsity coach. Being a varsity assistant coach lead me to many more opportunities, such as working with college infielders at Harbor Community College, Cal State Dominguez, and Marymount University.

Through all my gained experience I was given the opportunity to take ownership of a youth program called Professional Baseball Academy, which is now known as Top Notch Academy. In addition to running Top Notch, I’ve became the assistant varsity coach at Valencia High school in Placentia.

Our philosophy at Top Notch is to develop kids fundamentally, mentally, and physically, in order to succeed on and off the baseball field. We emphasize practicing like you play to ensure that every rep is taken at game speed. We also design our program to maximize the exposure of our players by playing a competitive schedule, combined with strategic elite national events. The common purpose of all Top Notch staff is to put players in a position to succeed, therefore gaining confidence with success and learning from failure.
